Boy next door musician, who is the greatest thing that happened to music in recent times.
Three days ago, Prince Rogers Nelson, or just Prince, by which name the whole music world knows him, passed away. Prince was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, actor, multi-instrumentalist and music innovator, who pioneered the Minneapolis Sound, which is a hybrid mix of funk, rock, pop, synth-pop and new-wave. He sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists worldwide and winning 7 Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe Award and also an Oscar Award for Best Original Song Score.
Prince became a big celebrity at an age of just 21, by when he went platinum in 1979, which technically means selling 1 million records. Quite similar to him, in present day, arrived a singer, who is dubbed the next big thing is music. His name is Edward Christopher Sheeran, or just Ed Sheeran for the music world, a 25 years old English singer, song-writer and musician, who dropped out of school at the age of 16 to pursue a career in music, quite prodigiously. By the age of 20, he caught the attention of music stalwarts like, Sir Elton John and Jamie Foxx.
Ed released his debut album "+" (plus) at an age of 20 and has since been 6-times Platinum in UK. The album contains the single, "The A-Team", which took him to magical heights of performing at London Olympics Closing Ceremony, two Brits Awards, including Best British Male Solo Artist and a guest appearance on Taylor Swift studio album which made him very popular outside Britain too. Next year, "The A-Team" was nominated at Grammy Awards for Song of the Year, where he performed the song live with Sir Elton John.
The song is about a homeless, drug abused city girl, who even turns to prostitution to buy drugs, but eventually dies due to overdose. The song calls her angel and voice rendering comes with a soulful, soothing folky ballad, mixed with great acoustic guitar and piano work. The official video of the song also stand apart from the usual stuffs nowadays. Shot in black and white, the 5 minute video has a story-telling effect of a whole movie.
Sheeran, wrote the song after meeting a woman in a homeless shelter where he visited for a gig. He was just 18 then.
His second studio album "X"(multiply) was released in June 2014, which peaked to number one spot in US and UK, earning him Brit Award for Album of the Year in 2015 and played out 3 sold-out Solo Concerts at London's Wembley Stadium. His single "Thinking Out Loud" from the album, earned him two Grammy Awards in 2016 : Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.
